How do I reset NG Firewall to factory defaults?
Overview
There are times when you may find it necessary to restore NG Firewall to the original, fresh from the Setup Wizard, state. You could do a reinstall but if you want just a quick reset restoring to factory defaults is quicker and less intensive.
There are two ways to restore the NGFW to factory default.
Restore To Defaults From Admin UI
If you have access to the UI and just want to reset back to a pristine state without a reinstall, this is the easiest way to do it:
- Navigate to Config > System > Support.
- At the bottom of the window is an option labeled "Reset all settings to factory defaults". Clicking the button next to that will pop a confirmation window.
Clicking the image above will load it, full-size, in a new window. - Click Yes to have the NG Firewall begin the restore process. It usually takes about 10 minutes depending on the size of the hard drive and the amount of configuration that is present.
Restore To Defaults From Console
If you are not able to load the UI due to a configuration change or some other failing in the system, you can still attempt a restore to defaults via the Console.
- Connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse directly to your NGFW device.
- At the bottom of the screen is a toolbar with 5 icons. Click Recovery Utilities.
- You will be prompted to enter the admin password. Once you authenticated you are given a menu of options, the last one being Restore to Factory Defaults.
Clicking the image above will load it, full-size, in a new window. - Select that option and then Yes to confirm. Once the Recovery Utilities Window goes away the Restore is complete.
