Configure VLAN Interfaces in bridged mode
If you wish to install Untangle as a bridge in the middle of several (V)LANs simultaneously, the following instructions will allow you to establish multiple bridges and then, if also using WAN Balancer, enter the routes to tell Untangle that if traffic enters on a specific interface it should exit the bridged peer.
You will need to create 2 virtual interfaces for each VLAN you want to set up.
- One as a child to the External interface
- One as a child to the Internal interface
Setting up the external VLAN interface
- Navigate to Config > Network > Interfaces.
- Click on Add Tagged VLAN interface.
- Give the interface a name that's easily identifiable.
- Set the Parent Interface to “External”.
- Set the 802.1q (VLAN) tag.
- Config type must be "Addressed".
- Enable “Is WAN Interface”.
- Assign a unique static IP to the interface.
- Specify the subnet mask for the VLAN subnet.
- Enter the IP address for the VLAN gateway.
- Enter DNS servers you would like to use.
- Click Done.
- Click Save.
Setting up the internal VLAN interface
- Navigate to Config > Network > Interfaces.
- Click on Add Tagged VLAN interface.
- Give the interface a name that's easily identifiable.
- Set the Parent Interface to “Internal”.
- Set the same 802.1q (VLAN) tag that you configured on the external VLAN interface.
- Config type must be "Bridged".
- Bridge this interface to the external VLAN interface.
- Click Done.
- Click Save.
Bandwidth Control Considerations
If you have Bandwidth Control enabled you will be prompted to set connection speeds for the VLAN External interface when you click the Save button.
You can set the speeds to the same settings as your primary External interface or you can set it to a lower number if you are restricting the bandwidth usage.
WAN Balancer Considerations
If you have WAN Balancer enabled and you want the VLAN traffic to only go out the External VLAN interface you can create a Route Rule:
- Navigate to WAN Balancer > Route Rules then click the Add button.
- Give the rule a description that will help you easily identify the purpose of the rule.
- Click the Add Condition button.
- In the drop-down menu select “Source Interface is” and then check the box for the Internal VLAN interface.
- For Destination WAN, select the External VLAN interface.
- Click Done.
- Click Save.
