Deploy the OpenVPN client to a Chromebook

Overview

This guide will show you how to import an OpenVPN client in to your Chromebook.

We are assuming the OpenVPN client already exists in this walkthough. If you are unsure how to create a new OpenVPN client please go here: OpenVPN 

Please note the screenshots used in this guide were generated using a Samsung XE303C12. Your Chromebook may not line up exactly with these screenshots.

1. Download the client from OpenVPN > Server > Remote Clients.
   
   
   
2. In the menu that appears, click the link provided for Chromebooks.
   
   
   
3. Now that we have the file we suggest sharing the file via Google Drive with the user that will be using the OpenVPN client. 

Importing the OpenVPN Client

1. On the target device, browse to chrome://net-internals#chromeos and use "Import ONC file". If your drop-down menu does not match the screenshot please select the ChromeOS option from the drop-down.  
   
   **The appliance should see the file in the user's Google Drive**  
   
   
   
2. Click on your profile icon in the bottom right-hand corner.
   
   
   
3. Click on "VPN disconnected" and then click on the OpenVPN connection that should appear in this section. The "Password" field needs to be populated before connecting. Since NG Firewall uses certificates instead of passwords for OpenVPN connections, what gets entered into the "Password" field is irrelevant. Just enter anything, then click the Connect button.
   
   
   

You should now be connected to the NG Firewall and able to access the local resources on the network.
