How do I block BitTorrent?

If you'd like to disable BitTorrent on your network, here are a couple of steps you can take:

1. Tarpit BitTorrent (and some related applications) via Application Control > Applications:
   
   
2. Deprioritize BitTorrent traffic in Bandwidth Control > Rules. Make sure to use the Application Control name for BT, which is BITTORRE:
   
   

If you're using Bandwidth Control this way, we also recommend setting the 'Limited Severely' priority as low as possible (to 0.1%). You can do this in Config > Network > Advanced > QoS > QoS Priorities:


Setting this priority doesn't block the traffic, but it does provide it with so little bandwidth that nothing will ever load.
